Montreal has spawned some malevolent creatures in the metal scene through the ages: Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis, Kataklysm, Obliveon, Unexpect just to name a few. And to this day, the city has proven to be an open portal to Hell with a growing army of metal bands and disciples. This is five that you should know about:
Aversion
Black Metal
This is an aggressive black metal band with an old school sound and a female vocalist. This band delivers cold riffs and dares to put guitars solos in black metal. They do not reinvent the wheel and it is not their intention, they simply bring black metal to Montreal.
Pallor Mortis
Death Metal
For the fans of Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel comes Pallor Mortis. They have great guitar riffs and an amazing singer. The band is currently changing name for Effigy and their style is morphing into something that could have bled from Septicflesh's talented veins.
Hands of Despair
Doom Metal
Since Katatonia stopped reinventing themselves I’ve been searching for a replacement for the feeling they used to bring. And while they have their own sound, Hands of Despair found a way to bring that uneasy ghostly feeling that I craved.
Reanimator
Thrash Metal
Take everything that makes thrash metal great into one band and you get Reanimator. Without taking themselves seriously, this band takes us to a fun ride like Green Jelly and Death Angel did back in the days.
Projekt F
Industrial metal
Take Kittie, Korn, NIN, Marilyn Manson (well pretty much the sound of my teenage years) and grind it all together; the mixture that comes out is called Projekt F. A sound that’s been missed for a while with a twist of new, this is a fresh breeze from the past. And with a taste for the theatrical, you don’t want to miss them live.
